General Info

Tucked away in Akashi, Hyogo, Ship Shape feels like one of those places you stumble upon once-and then keep coming back to. The location at 〒673-0883 Hyogo, Akashi, Nakasaki, 2-chome−4−1 アーバンライフ is easy to reach, yet it still carries that cozy, slightly hidden charm that makes dining out feel special.

From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere sets the tone. It’s relaxed but polished, the kind of Italian restaurant where you can enjoy a quiet dinner or linger over coffee and wine without feeling rushed. The menu reflects that same balance-thoughtful, creative, and clearly crafted with care.

One of the first things that stands out is the 前菜アミューズメント. It’s not just a starter; it’s an introduction to the kitchen’s personality. Each bite feels intentional, setting expectations high for what follows. Then there’s the 小柱とわさび菜のアーリオオーリオ, a dish that blends Italian technique with subtle Japanese flavors. The freshness of the ingredients comes through immediately, and the balance between garlic, oil, and wasabi greens is surprisingly smooth.

For something more indulgent, the 黒毛和牛 is hard to overlook. Rich, tender, and cooked just right, it’s the kind of dish that makes you slow down and appreciate each bite. Pair it with a glass of wine or even a stronger drink from their selection of hard liquor, and the experience becomes even more memorable.

Dessert is where things get playful. The プリン has a comforting, nostalgic feel but is executed with a refined touch. Meanwhile, the マンゴーバルフエ brings a bright, tropical finish that contrasts nicely with the richer dishes earlier in the meal. It’s the kind of ending that leaves you satisfied without feeling heavy.

Service here is smooth and attentive without being overbearing. Whether you’re paying with credit cards or just enjoying a casual coffee after dinner, everything feels seamless. Reviews from visitors often highlight this consistency-it’s not just about one great dish, but the overall experience from start to finish.

In a city with many dining options, Ship Shape stands out not by being flashy, but by being genuinely good at what it does. The menu, the location, and the overall vibe come together in a way that feels natural and welcoming, making it easy to see why it leaves such a strong impression.

What customers say?

“ We visited for our anniversary. We enjoyed hors d'oeuvres, pasta, Japanese Black beef, red sea bream dishes, and even dessert. The young waitstaff, both male and female, were refreshing and contributed to the homey atmosphere. The location was also great, allowing us to enjoy our course meal while looking out at the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. I'll definitely visit again. ”

“ The food, the atmosphere (interior), and the service were all perfect! We ordered eggplant and gorgonzola pizza, sea urchin cream pasta, and a dessert plate, and everything was absolutely delicious! The interior was luxurious and relaxing, and we enjoyed our meal while looking out at the ocean and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. It was a truly elegant experience! The waiter was also very kind, smiling and greeting my partner when she spoke to him. There's no sign, and since it's on the second floor of an apartment building, we didn't even notice it, so we walked right past it. lol We went back and looked for it, and finally found it when we saw SHIP SHAPE written in the window on the second floor of the apartment building. While I think they should put up a sign, I also think it would be a problem if it became too popular. lol ”

“ For lunch, I chose the "Casual Course with One Dish" for 3,800 yen, changing the meat to fish. The salad was hearty and the vegetable terrine was delicious. I opted for pasta instead of soup, and the firm al dente and tough dried squid made my jaw tired. As expected, the fish was pan-fried sea bream, but it was unexpectedly grilled like a matsukasa, and was very tasty with a cream sauce. The "Pan-fried Tilefish Kasamatsu-yaki" was not the fish dish of the day, so it cost an additional 300 yen. It's about a 15-minute walk from the station, but I was able to enjoy a delicious meal in a relaxed atmosphere with a view of the Awaji Bridge. ”

“ I happened to discover this restaurant while strolling around on Google Maps! I ended up visiting thanks to a connection! The salad that comes out first is elegant, and both the fish and meat are thick and satisfying! The baguette is drizzled with olive oil and salt. The pasta was octopus and komatsuna! The octopus was huge and delicious. For dessert, I had tea and, for an additional fee, creme brûlée! It was delicious! I'd love to come back at night to enjoy the view. ”

“ I had lunch at a table with a view of the sea. It was an unpretentious, peaceful and enjoyable meal. The staff were very considerate and the food was, of course, delicious. I'll definitely go again. The pasta lunch was 1,600 yen. You can choose from two types of salad, bread, and pasta. ”

“ May 20, 2023: Repeat visit for lunch. Hors d'oeuvres, salad, pasta, bread, dessert, and coffee Everything was carefully prepared, beautifully presented, and delicious Light Lunch Course Three colorful hors d'oeuvres served as a salad Beef and komatsuna with tomato sauce Shrimp and asparagus aglio e olio Homemade bread baked that morning Strawberry and pistachio parfait Gâteau almond The view of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge was also a treat Thankful for the luxurious time I was completely satisfied and full, thank you for the delicious meal Ship Shape (Ship Shape) 2-4-1 Nakazaki, Akashi City, 2nd Floor Closed Tuesdays >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> This French-Italian restaurant is located on the second floor of an apartment building overlooking Akashi Port. It was my first time, so I was a little nervous, but I was blown away by the delicious food and portions. The platter of three appetizers was amazing! How many appetizers were there? Colorful vegetable terrine Scallops Mussels So delicious! The seafood pescatore, meatloaf pie, and green salad were all delicious. One after the other. I was completely satisfied. Thank you for the meal. ”

“ I went there for lunch. On a clear day, you can see Awaji Island and the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, making for a truly spectacular view. Unfortunately, it was stormy weather, and the rain and smoke obscured much of the view... ???? I ordered the set meal. You could choose between soup or pasta, roast beef or pan-fried sea bream, and a variety of desserts, so it was great to be able to choose exactly what you wanted. I had soup, pan-fried sea bream, and orange crème brûlée. The skin of the pan-fried sea bream was crispy, and even I, who don't like skin, enjoyed it. The only downside was that, as a COVID-19 precaution, seats weren't spaced out. Due to the stormy weather, the restaurant wasn't full, and there were plenty of seats available, but there were three other groups seated next to each other. ”
